LOCHS

RANNOCH

Loch Rannoch is one of the most beautiful spots in Scotland - despite being remote and unspoilt, it is only 2 1/2 hours by car from Edinburgh, and 1 1/2 hours from Perth. The 20 miles of winding road from the A9 to Kinloch Rannoch is an experience, passing Loch Tummel and the towering peak of Scheihallion. The loch itself is 10 miles long and a mile wide, and the road around it's circumference an amazing drive, hugging the side of the loch all the way round.
The Tay Forest Park on the south bank is the largest area of the Caledonian Forest still remaining, and it's amazing, dense forest provides stimulating walking. Finally, for an experience that will never be forgotten, visit the isolation of Rannoch Station, six miles to the west of the loch. This station stands in a moonscape of heather and rocks, and must be one of the most remote railway outposts in Britain.
